What is the power of education? Why do we need to educate ourselves? Education allows us to learn new things and gain knowledge that we can apply in our lives and make them better. Imagine if you are uneducated or less educated than your peers, wouldn’t you be suffering from that disadvantage? Yes, indeed! That’s why we should all take advantage of education as much as possible and try to get more degrees so we can get higher positions in life and earn more money, am I right?
The human brain continues to develop throughout adolescence and even into our mid-twenties. Brain development really begins in utero, with a large amount of brain growth occurring in prenatal development (especially in the first few years after birth). Over 80% of your brain develops by age three, which means that most aspects of your IQ are decided by age six! From then on, though, it’s about strengthening and fine-tuning what you already have.
And it takes work. If you don’t use it, you lose it. If there isn’t enough oxygen getting to your brain because of poor circulation or blocked arteries, for example, your cognitive function will decline over time. To keep your mind sharp, it’s important to exercise regularly, eat right, and take care of yourself. It also helps if you can keep learning new things—in fact, people who engage in lifelong learning tend to be healthier overall than those who don’t. There are many ways to do so: read books; join an adult education class; learn a new language; start playing an instrument; volunteer at a museum or animal shelter; take up painting—the possibilities are endless!
